National Parks of Hawaii

This park is located on the Island of Maui. It includes both the Kipahulu coastal regions and the summit region of Mount Haleakala, a giant dormant shield volcano. Its summit is 3,055 meters (10,023 feet) above sea level, accessible even by car. The name Haleakala means "house of the sun" in Hawaiian. (Michael Oswald, September 2003)
